Surgery

As for a real update, I went in for a CD 2 ultrasound and Doc is pretty sure I have not only an endometrioma on/in my left ovary, but I also seem to have a dermoid cyst. (Grossest thing I have ever googled.) He is fairly confident I have some level of endometriosis, due to my painful periods and long bouts of spotting prior to AF. So I am scheduled for a laparoscopic surgery on April 29.

I am totally freaked out about surgery. The whole thing is making me nervous, but I am glad to be doing it. If you read this and have had this surgery or know anyone who has had it, please let me know your thoughts on it. I am particularly interested to hear recovery time. Doc says I should be back to work on Monday (surgery is Friday), but I went ahead and scheduled a day off for Monday to be on the safe side.

So this is a month off for us. I am actually taking birth control to keep my ovaries from growing large follicles that could make the surgery difficult for Doc. Depending on the stage of the endo, we may have to take time off after surgery as well. I am praying the damage is not severe, and that we can begin treatment after successful removal!

  1. I had this surgery in September. The recovery process was not bad at all, just a little uncomfortable. I took a week off because I work with children with emotional/behavioral problems and my doctor was concerned that they would accidentally hurt my stomach. During the surgery, the doctor discovered that I had a cyst (previously unseen on u/s) and a kink in my left fallopian tube. We wouldn't have known this otherwise. I'm very glad I had the surgery!

  3. You are so welcome! I was very nervous going into the surgery as well, so I'm more than happy to share my experience. I don't know if you've had the HSG ink thing done, but that to me was WAY worse.

The first day after the surgery was a little painful, but nothing major. I was up and walking around fine on the second full day after surgery. I actually got pregnant on our own 6 weeks after the surgery but I ended up miscarrying. But I really think without the surgery that wouldn't have happened. Good luck!!

  4. Thank you so much! That really helps me feel better about the whole thing. I have had the HSG done, and I thought it was uncomfortable, but bearable. Hopefully this will be the same way!

I am sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Good luck to you and your husband in what I know will be a healthy future pregnancy!
